Category C vehicles are rigid vehicles over 7.5 tonnes but excluding any trailer (drawbar) over 750kg. Category E vehicles are any articulated vehicle or any other LGV or HGV or combination of vehicle and drawbar trailer.

A Category E licence is only available in combination with Category C and you must pass your Category C test first. If you have already passed a Category C1 test, you do not need to take the theory test again.
