Theory Test Preparation

The driving theory test has two parts, to prepare for both parts of the theory test we recommend that all candidates, regardless of driving experience, use the resource material available.

Multiple Choice

The first part of the theory test is a multiple choice test of 100 questions. To prepare for this part of the theory test, the source material books are available in the Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) starter pack from the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). The complete set of theory test questions and answers is also available in book format.

Hazard Perception

Part two of the theory test is a hazard perception test of 14 video clips in which you will have to identify 15 developing hazards.

DSA has developed a multimedia training resource for the hazard perception test. This resource adopts a structured approach to defining hazards, looking for clues, the "mirror-signal-maneouvre" routine, scanning and planning, prioritising, cutting down the risks and responding to hazards. The DVD has a number of interactive example hazard perception video clips. This training resource is available in DVD and VHS video format and is called "The Official Guide to Hazard Perception." This was formally know as "RoadSense."

All of these products are available to buy from most High Street book shops.

ADI Part 3 Training

When you pass your ADI Part 2, you then need to take a minimum of 40 hours extra training before you can get a licence to start teaching. This may take weeks or months, costing you valuable time and money but Driver Training Ltd offer you 1:1 training so that you are not sharing your training with any other students and a choice of training options ranging from 20 two-hour sessions to a one-week intensive course.

Check Test Training

Every so often, all qualified instructors have to undergo a Check Test, a test to confirm their ability to continue to instruct. Experience instructors usually have a Check Test every four years, but newly qualified instructors can expect their first Check Test within 12 months of qualifying.

Check Test preparation can be for either the ADI Check Test or the Fleet Register Check Test. We have helped many ADIs to change their grade. Check Test training should be much more than simply preparing for a test. When you discover how to improve your skills as an instructor, your daily routine will be less stressful and your pass rates will improve.
